Radiant Barrier

What is it?

A radiant barrier is a type of building material that reflects thermal radiation, thereby reducing heat transfer. Typically made of a highly reflective material. These barriers are installed in Attics to improve energy efficiency by minimizing heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter.

Benefits?

  1. Improved Energy Efficiency:
    • Heat Reduction: Reduces the overall heat in the attic space by reflecting radiant heat coming from the sun, radiant barriers reduce the amount of heat that penetrates the home, leading to lower cooling costs in the summer.
    • Heat Retention: During the winter, radiant barriers will help retain heat within the living space, reducing heating costs.
  2. Enhanced Comfort:
    • By maintaining a consistent indoor temperature throughout the year a radiant barrier contributes to a more comfortable living environment.
  3. Extended HVAC Lifespan:
    • Radiant barrier Expand your (HVAC) systems life by reducing the workload needed to keep your home cool in the summer. As well as warm in the winter.
  4. Improved Insulation Performance:
    • Radiant barriers complement traditional insulation by addressing heat transfer through radiation, whereas traditional insulation primarily slows conductive and convective heat transfer.
  5. Cost-Effectiveness:
    • Although the initial installation may incur costs, the energy savings over time can make radiant barriers a cost-effective investment.
  6. Moisture Control:
    • Some radiant barriers also can serve as a vapor barrier, helping to control moisture and prevent condensation in your attic space.
